This Father’s Day Eric got the best gift ever. We both did. 🙂
We named him Wellington Grey, and what a little doll of a Wellington he is. We can’t get enough of him.
His name came about in quite an unexpected way. Alec was listening to a Boxcar Children story one day, and I was surprised to hear the same name as one of the characters in a show I was watching. It wasn't the most common name either, so it stuck out to me that he was listening to a story with this name and I was watching a show with this name at the same time.
On a whim, I went and found Eric, and I was like, “Wellington,” expecting to be shot down immediately.
What a surprise when he actually considered it, and what an even bigger surprise when he agreed with me that it was an option, the best option we’d come up with so far should we have another boy.
A few minutes later, I went and found him again. “Wellington Grey.”
And from then on, we started hoping for a boy, just so we could name him Wellington Grey. 🙂
And now here he is, the most adorable little Wellington you ever saw.

He was the only Father’s Day gift I’d “gotten” for Eric that Eric actually got on Father’s Day.
Eric's bulldozer and bug tshirts from Sebastian and Alec came a few days after Father's Day. The new desk and office setup came a few days before Father’s Day, when I spent an entire afternoon quickly building the new desk, cleaning up around the old one, sliding furniture out of the way for Eric to deal with later, and setting up a whole new “office.” Not bad for thirty-eight weeks pregnant!
I couldn’t have given the best gift of all on Father’s Day if I had tried, and I think it’s just so sweet that God worked it out to have Wellington come on that day. It was so special, especially since he was nine days early! All my other boys came the day before their due date.
We are so grateful Wellington is here safely, that he’s healthy and adorable and has all the dark hair I’d been hoping he would have. I’ve never before imagined what the baby inside me would look like before he came out, but for some reason this time I did, and he matched it to a tee. That little scrunchy face and bump nose, and all that beautiful hair.
Thank You, Father, for this precious gift. He is so perfect.
Before we came up with the perfect boy name, I had been hoping for a girl because the girl name we’ve been saving would have been the perfect addition to our initials. Eric and the boys’ initials spell EASE, which I thought was neat enough to have put on a bracelet. If you add mine in there, it spells CEASE, which had me superstitiously worried that we weren’t supposed to have any more children (haha). If we had added our girl name on the end, it would have spelled CEASES, and I just loved that so much because it reminded me of the verses from Lamentations.
“The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; His mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning. Great is Your faithfulness.” (Lamentations 3:22-23, ESV)
We didn’t have a girl, and now our initials don’t spell anything at all with a W on the end, but those verses were with me through this entire pregnancy, and they are still so special to me now.
The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases.
What a beautiful promise, for life in general, for pregnancy in particular, and now even more so for postpartum.
His love never ceases. Great is His faithfulness.
What a wonderful Father, and what a good gift He has given us.
Welcome to the world, Wellington Grey. We’re so glad you’re here.
